Cotton Market News and Commentary

Cotton futures are posting sharp 192 to 219 point gains in most contracts at midday on bargain hunting after hitting 13-month lows. The Cotlook A index was down 120 points from the previous day on January 3 at 79.65 cents/lb. The weekly average world price (AWP) was not released on the regular Thursday schedule due to the partial government shutdown. IEG Vantage estimates the 2018 US cotton crop at 18.472 million bales, 116,000 bales below USDA’s current estimate. The Crop Production report scheduled for next Friday will be delayed due to the government shutdown.

Mar 19 Cotton is at 73.02, up 219 points,

May 19 Cotton is at 74.32, up 205 points

Jul 19 Cotton is at 75.62, up 197 points
